Annual Ceilidh Raises Record Funds for Community Fund

The annual Glenbrae Ceilidh, held last Saturday in the newly renovated village hall, raised a record two thousand three hundred pounds for the Glenbrae Community Fund. Over one hundred and fifty people packed the hall for an evening of dancing, music, and storytelling that lasted well past midnight.

A Night to Remember

The Brae Collection, a six-piece folk ensemble featuring fiddle, accordion, guitar, whistle, bodhran, and piano, provided the music. Caller Finlay Robertson guided the crowd through Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, and the Dashing White Sergeant, with newcomers warmly welcomed into every set.

“The ceilidh is the one night when nobody sits out,” said organiser Mairi Sinclair. “Whether you are eight or eighty, you are up dancing. That is what makes it special — and that is what makes Glenbrae special.”

Supporting the Community

The Community Fund provides grants for village projects, from the primary school’s garden project to the wildlife survey. This year’s record total was boosted by a raffle with prizes donated by Brae Distillery, the craft gallery, and several local businesses.

The ceilidh has been held annually since 2009 and has raised over eighteen thousand pounds in total. Next year’s date will be announced in the autumn.
